The 22 year old singer songwriter from New Jersey, was shot dead last night whilst meeting and greeting her fans during a signing session following on from her hugely successful tour performance.
Christina was shot by a lone gunman who has not been named, and although she was rushed to a local hospital soon after the incident, she died of her wounds late last night. The local police force confirmed her passing on social media and outcry’s of grief and support have been pouring in from her fans.
Christina’s brother was present for the signing session when the attack took place, and after seeing his sister shot apprehended the gunman at the scene by tackling him to the ground. The gunman revealed a second weapon and shot himself in the head. Her brother’s actions are being held up by fans of Christina as heroic and the Orlando Police Department have stated that he stopped anyone else from becoming a victim last night.
Christina’s Success Story:
Christina’s career was launched at 16 years old when she began her Youtube channel covering well known Top40 hits with a unique Grimmie twist. She was picked up whilst on Youtube and amassed a 3million strong following on the video sharing site, collaborating with some of Youtube’s most famous singers/songwriters such as Kurt Hugo Shneider and Sam Tsui.
Christina was then blasted onto television screens after appearing on NBC’s The Voice USA on season 6 and making it all the way to the semi final where she was named as runner up in the hit series. This mainstream attention only set to enhance her already astronomical fanbase and allowed her to bring out her first EP ‘Find Me’ and the album came in at number 2 on Itunes, being tipped off the top spot by Adele’s ’19’.
Christina toured the US and Canada opening for Selena Gomez who made a plea on Twitter today for fans not to bring banners saying ‘RIP Christina’ to Selena’s performance today. She went on to say ‘It is too soon for everyone’. Demi Lovato took to Twitter before news broke that Christina had passed, with fans hoping she would make a full recovery in hospital. Lovato said ‘Praying so hard for Christina Grimmie. Please Pray for her!’.
Christina’s life was only twenty two years, but they were a twenty two years that impacted the people who admired her musical talent and enjoyed her covers and originals alike. Her loss has hit her fans hard with hundreds of touching tribute’s being paid to the singer, along with well-wishes to her family and friends.
Fellow Youtubers and online creative’s more than aware of Christina’s inspirational story, paid tribute online also. GloZell Green from the Youtube channel GloZell has taken to Twitter to express her sadness at Christina’s passing referring to her as one of her ‘Youtube babies’. Although Christina’s life was cut shot by the gunman who took it from her so tragically, her music will live on and the memory of this very talented unique young woman will not be forgotten.
